Back during the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004, Allentown Morning Call state government and political reporter John Micek launched a brand new blog known as Capitol Ideas. Like most bloggers at that time, Micek had little idea what to expect, and was learning on the fly.
Eight years later, this much is true: there is Capitol Ideas, and then there is every other blog about Pennsylvania politics and government. It remains the gold standard, with thousands of loyal followers and a constant stream of some of the best reporting and news gathering you will find anywhere.
The Triad Strategies Network is proud to bring you an exclusive video interview with John Micek; reporter, blogger, tweeter, iPad junkie and soccer fanatic. Tony May sat down with John and covered a wide range of topics, from how he uses social media, to how it has shaped and re-shaped reporting, and where he sees the future of social media and journalism.
Along the way, you’ll hear from John about which folks he follows, and how he uses Twitter to both follow House and Senate debates, as well as listen to campaign “chatter”. Some of John’s online favorites (outside of our humble online presence) include Laura Olson and Jim O’Toole of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette; Scott Detrow of WITF; Tom Fitzgerald of the Philadelphia Inquirer; Kati Sipp of SEIU Healthcare PA; Senator Larry Farnese; State Representatives Eugene DePasquale and Gordon Denlinger; and House Democratic and Republican spokesmen Bob Caton and Steve Miskin, respectively. And if John is following them, you probably should too!
So take a few minutes, pull up a comfy chair, and meet John Micek, the man behind one of our daily must-reads, Capitol Ideas! Enjoy!
